Welcome to my space: who am I even?
Hello, and welcome. I am Greta, a Registered Nurse and clinical tutor, and this is where I will be sharing short pieces on studying nursing and allied health in Australia: how to approach pathophysiology when it feels overwhelming, what to actually pack for your first placement, how to structure an assignment before you start writing, and the small study habits that make exam weeks calmer.
Before any of that, it feels right to start with who I am.
Long before I became a Registered Nurse or began tutoring nursing students, I was simply a little girl fascinated by the human body.
One of my earliest memories is of my late maternal grandfather, a doctor, allowing me to use his stethoscope. He showed me where to place it and taught me that the sound I could hear was the heart beating. I remember listening with complete amazement. Something was constantly working inside us, keeping us alive, and I wanted to understand how.
From that moment, my curiosity only grew.
Where it all began
I was fortunate to grow up surrounded by a loving family who encouraged my interest in learning. I immersed myself in encyclopaedias and books about the human body. By the time I was around five years old, I remember excitedly telling my family about the heart, the lungs that helped us breathe, the stomach and liver, and the bones that supported our bodies.
As I grew older, biology became far more than a school subject to me. I loved learning about everything from the structure of a single cell to the complex systems that allow the human body to function.
Every new concept felt like another piece of an enormous jigsaw puzzle. The more pieces I discovered, the more the complete picture began to make sense, and the more I wanted to learn.
Moving to Australia at 18
At 18, I left my home country and moved overseas to Perth to study nursing at Edith Cowan University.
Moving to another country at such a young age was a significant turning point in my life. I was adapting to a new culture, building a life away from the familiarity of home and beginning the demanding journey towards becoming a nurse.
Nursing gave my love of biology a deeper purpose. Anatomy and physiology were no longer simply fascinating subjects; they formed the foundation for understanding illness, medications, clinical decisions and, most importantly, the people receiving care.
During university, however, I noticed how frequently nursing students spoke about anatomy, physiology and their clinical science units with fear. The amount of information could feel overwhelming, and many students struggled to see how all the individual concepts connected.
I understood why they felt that way, but I also wanted them to see what I saw.
I wanted them to see the human body as an interconnected story rather than a collection of complicated terms to memorise. I wanted to help them build a clear picture of what was happening, why it was happening and how that knowledge related to nursing practice.
That was how my tutoring journey began.
From helping students to discovering my passion
I started tutoring while I was still a nursing student myself. Initially, I was simply helping other students understand difficult concepts. Over time, I realised how much I loved taking something complex and explaining it in a way that finally made sense to someone else.
There is a special moment when a student who has been feeling completely lost suddenly says, “I finally understand it.”
That moment has never become less meaningful to me.
Over the past eight years, I have continued tutoring alongside building my own nursing career. I have supported students with anatomy, physiology, pathophysiology, pharmacology, clinical reasoning, exam preparation and assignment feedback.
When I later moved from Western Australia to Queensland, students from WA continued contacting me. Gradually, students from Queensland and other parts of Australia began reaching out as well. Much of this growth happened through word of mouth, recommendations and students returning for support throughout different stages of their degrees.
Their trust showed me that this had grown into something much greater than occasional tutoring.
How did I get to this point?
Since graduating, my nursing career has taken me through several areas of healthcare, including aged care, community nursing, disability support, care coordination and clinical education. Each experience has expanded my clinical knowledge and strengthened the way I teach.
I have also continued my own education, having recently completed my Master of Nursing in Advanced Practice at James Cook University.
Throughout all these changes, my passion for teaching has remained constant.
Greta's Clinical Tutoring was not created from a sudden business idea. It is the natural next chapter of something I began eight years ago: helping nursing students replace fear and confusion with genuine understanding.
I created this website because I wanted students to have a dedicated place where they could learn about the support I offer, contact me easily and access guidance from someone who understands both the academic and clinical sides of nursing.
My goal is not simply to help students memorise enough information to pass an assessment. I want them to develop confidence, recognise connections and understand how their knowledge will eventually support real people in real clinical situations.
This is only the beginning
If you are a nursing student who feels overwhelmed, doubts your abilities or has ever wondered whether you truly belong in the profession, please know that you are not alone.
Sometimes, all you need is for someone to explain the information differently, help you find the missing connection or remind you of how much you are already capable of learning.
That is what I hope Greta's Clinical Tutoring can provide.
What began with a little girl listening to a heartbeat through her grandfather's stethoscope has grown into a lifelong love of healthcare, nursing and education.
And now, I am incredibly excited to share the next part of that journey with you.
Welcome to Greta's Clinical Tutoring.
